Drink and drug driving awareness for Queensland Road Safety Week

During Queensland Road Safety Week, each day represents a component of the Fatal Five with Tuesday focusing on drink and drug driving.
The Yamanto Police were out in force across the Ipswich District reminding drivers to not drink, drug and drive.

Drink and drug driving is an increasing road safety problem, and there is a particularly strong association between drug use and crash involvement, with the risk estimated to be equal that of a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.1 to 0.15 per cent BAC (CARRS-Q)

In Queensland it’s an offence to drive with THC (active ingredient found in cannabis – including some medicinal cannabis) in your system, even if it’s prescribed by a doctor.
Driving whilst under the influence of alcohol and drugs affects our ability to drive safely and can affect your judgement, vision, coordination and reflexes – all of which increase your risk of having a crash.

Community Camera Alliance launches in Ipswich District

The Ipswich Police District Crime Prevention Unit launched the Community Camera Alliance today. The Community Camera Alliance is a Queensland Police Service (QPS) voluntary closed circuit television (CCTV) registration program.
This initiative has been adopted from the Mackay Community Camera Alliance. It aims to promote the positive relationship between the community and police by encouraging the registration of CCTV Systems located in residential and business environments across Ipswich in order to prevent crime and make the community safer.
It will also enhance investigative capacity and increase community engagement through the establishment of a voluntary CCTV registration system on the QPS database, QPRIME.
CCTV has become a crucial investigative tool in modern day policing. CCTV vision is regularly used to investigate and solve serious crime and is invaluable when used as evidence. The use of CCTV can potentially reduce investigation time resulting in swifter outcomes.
Registration is open to any individual, owner or operator of

Stolen vehicle alert, Wednesday August 23

In the past, many vehicles have been taken while the victims were at home.
Keys, mobile phones and cash were also stolen after thieves allegedly gained entry to homes and easily located car keys in plain view.
Police advise that residents should secure their homes and vehicles to avoid opportunistic thefts. Hiding car keys and valuables will make it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
Ask yourself: “Where are my car keys?”
If you can, secure your car in a garage or park your vehicle inside of your yard rather than on the street. This will also assist in the prevention of number plates being stolen.

On Tuesday, August 22, prep students from Redbank Plains State School met to discuss personal safety with Adopt-a-Cop Constable Sue Lindsay, and two very special guests: Senior Constable Clancy and the Redbank Plains State School Panther.
The students discovered that the two mascots have a lot in common, including that they both wear blue uniforms and they both want the students to be safe and respectful learners.

Students from prep to Year 2 learnt from Constable Sue Lindsay and Constable Stefanie Purcell about the difference between being safe and unsafe and what to do should they ever feel unsafe.
Students also got to dress up as police officers and learned about marching, saluting, police equipment and solving problems via good communication.
