Springfield Lakes Community Gears Up for Massive Youth Blue Light Disco

Seeking to give kids a massive, fully supervised winter escape, Greater Ipswich police and the YMCA are transforming a local recreation facility near Springfield Lakes into an action-packed Blue Light Disco.

Looking for a way to get kids out of the house this weekend? The solution arrives this Friday, 7 August 2026. Organisers have split the YMCA Springfield Central Community Centre event into two distinct age groups to keep the music and atmosphere appropriate.

Primary school students aged eight and older get the floor from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. High schoolers then take over from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Safety remains the top priority throughout the evening. Adults must physically sign their children in at the door and collect them when the music stops, meaning kids cannot simply wander off into the night alone.

Entry costs $10 per person. That single fee covers both the entertainment and a meal, giving hungry dancers a choice between a traditional sausage sizzle or a slice of pizza. Leave the stilettos at home. Because the venue is an active sports hall, thin heels are strictly banned to protect the flooring.

Sneakers, flat shoes, or block heels are mandatory for anyone wanting to get past the front entrance. Families must secure their spots ahead of time by registering online through the official Blue Light Queensland website before arriving.
