Cat Registration Ceases
Ipswich City Council made the decision at its Council meeting on 24 May 2016 to cease mandatory cat registration as of 1 July 2016. This decision brings Council in line with other Councils in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Scenic Rim and the Lockyer Valley.Council has had limited success with mandatory cat registration and is looking at other strategies to best manage the city’s cat population. Council will investigate ways to assist in the reduction of unwanted cat litters and help owners best understand how they can contain cats to their own properties so they don’t become a nuisance. If you have a cat registered with Council the current registration expires on 30 June 2016, meaning no registration renewals will be sent this year as the change is effective 1 July 2016.For Council’s media release click here or for further information about cats click here.
