Waterworx management announced the ownership change on August 19, saying final settlement was expected within about four to five weeks. The announcement also marked a transition for Paul, Lyn, Greg, and Rickie, who said they were approaching retirement after many years at the centre.

Three separate businesses are expected to operate from the facility under the new arrangements. Existing tenant Sports and Spinal will remain and expand its business, while Sam Riley Swim School will take over the learn-to-swim tenancy. The future of the gym remains under negotiation, with Waterworx saying existing arrangements would continue until further details were available.

Outdoor Pools Will Not Reopen

One of the clearest changes concerns the outdoor pools. Waterworx management said the new owner had advised that the outdoor pools would remain closed and would not reopen.

State Member for Jordan Charis Mullen said losing the outdoor lap pool would be disappointing for local families, Springfield Waterworx Swimming Club and schools that use the facility for swimming lessons. For the swimming club, the change has already meant finding a new base.

Springfield Waterworx Swimming Club said its squad had moved to Carole Park Pool after more than 25 years at Waterworx. The club is now joining The Lakes Swimming Club and undertaking the process of merging the two organisations. The club said the move would mean leaving the Springfield Waterworx name behind, but retaining its Orca identity.

The club said its swimmers had settled into their new surroundings and were continuing to train and achieve personal bests. It also said three dedicated coaches were now working together, with swimmers developing a renewed sense of belonging at their new home.

The club described the move as the end of its 25-year chapter at Waterworx, where generations of swimmers had trained. At Waterworx, management said further information would be provided as the transition progresses.

All current staff are expected to remain, although some roles could change under the new arrangements. Further information about the gym and other arrangements is expected as the transition progresses.

For local customers, Sam Riley Swim School will take over the learn-to-swim tenancy, Sports and Spinal will expand its business, and the gym’s future remains under negotiation. The outdoor pools, meanwhile, will not reopen. The swimming club has now moved its squad to Carole Park Pool as it begins a new chapter with The Lakes Swimming Club.
