A sporting precinct already used by up to 10 clubs, local schools, community groups and residents is being expanded at Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve, with new fields and supporting facilities now taking shape.
Crews have installed geogrid and subbase gravel for the new entry road and car park, while drainage works have progressed across the new playing field area. A sandstone retaining wall at the entry road has been completed, with construction now under way on retaining walls along the eastern side of the site.
The upgrade will deliver two rectangular sporting fields with an overlapping cricket field, as well as sealed car parks, footpaths and associated lighting. The reserve currently supports six formalised sports, with the additional facilities planned to increase the amount of sporting activity the precinct can accommodate.

More Room for Clubs, Schools and Local Sport
The new playing areas will add capacity to a reserve already serving a broad range of organised and informal users. Improved parking, pedestrian access and lighting are also included in the works, alongside infrastructure intended to improve the quality, resilience and usability of the complex.
Construction began in mid-April 2026 and is currently expected to be completed by December 2026. Sections of the reserve remain unavailable while work continues across the site.
Hydraulic services are now being installed following plumbing approvals, while crews have started spreading topsoil across site batters. Electrical conduit and pit installation is also continuing throughout the precinct.

Upgrade Moves Through Key Construction Stages
Ipswich City Council is delivering the Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve New Sports Facility with support from the SEQ Liveability Grant Program.
Current works span drainage, retaining walls, the new entry road and car park, hydraulic services and electrical infrastructure. The two rectangular fields and overlapping cricket field will provide additional playing space once construction is complete.
With up to 10 clubs, local schools and community groups already using the reserve across six formalised sports, the additional fields and supporting infrastructure are intended to allow more frequent use of the precinct. Construction remains active across the reserve, with completion still anticipated by December 2026.
