Springfield Lakes Set to Light Up at Greater Springfield Dandiya Night

Springfield Lakes residents are invited to join Greater Springfield Dandiya Night 2026, a free community event featuring music, dance, food and family activities at Robelle Domain Parklands.

The Greater Springfield Indian Association Inc will hold the annual event on Saturday, 29 August, beginning at 4pm. Families and visitors from across Greater Springfield and neighbouring suburbs are welcome to attend, with entry available free of charge.

Greater Springfield Dandiya Night Program

The evening will include live Garba and Dandiya music, cultural performances and activities for families. A DJ will play Garba and Dandiya tracks throughout the program, while food vendor Wah Wah Swaad will offer a range of Indian dishes.

Participation is open to experienced dancers and people trying Garba or Dandiya for the first time. Attendees are also encouraged to wear traditional or festive clothing.

Dancing Ahead Of Navratri

Dandiya Night is traditionally celebrated during the lead-up to Navratri. The celebration has become a popular community event in many parts of Australia, bringing people from different backgrounds together through music, dance and shared festivities.

GSIA Activities Across Greater Springfield

GSIA describes itself as a non-profit organisation that works to preserve Indian cultural heritage and share Indian culture with the wider Greater Springfield community.

The association aims to keep cultural traditions accessible to future generations while giving people opportunities to present their talents, arts and culture. It also seeks to bring a range of Indian celebrations to the Greater Springfield area and works with other Indian cultural organisations.

Its activities include social awareness events and blood donation camps, as well as cultural and community gatherings held throughout the year. Events listed by the association include India Day celebrations, picnics, movie events, Dandiya Night, Santa celebrations, kite festivals and cricket tournaments.

GSIA states that its events help younger generations learn about Indian culture and provide guidance to newcomers in the community. Membership is open to people interested in understanding or enjoying Indian culture.

The association identifies Mukesh Dubey as its founder and president. He is also listed as one of the contacts for the upcoming Dandiya Night.

The Spooky Men’s Chorale will perform at the Ipswich Civic Centre on 30 May, as part of its Queensland tour marking 25 years since the group first formed.

The Ipswich performance follows the tour’s opening show in South Bank and forms part of a wider schedule that includes stops across multiple Queensland communities. The run continues through Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, Maleny and Noosa, before the group moves on to a Sydney performance and a United Kingdom tour.

A Show Built Around Music And Live Connection

The anniversary production brings together elements of choral singing, theatrical presentation and understated humour, creating a performance designed for live audiences.

Formed in New South Wales in 2001, the ensemble has developed a following through regular appearances at theatres and festivals across Australia, the UK and Europe. Its performances move between moments of layered vocal harmony and lighter material, with a focus on timing, delivery and audience engagement.

The group’s approach draws on influences including Georgian male polyphony, while maintaining a consistent stage identity shaped by simple visual elements and coordinated presentation.

Audience participation also forms part of the experience, with sections of the show inviting those in attendance to take part in large-scale group singing.

Bringing The Anniversary Tour To Local Audiences

The Ipswich Civic Centre performance reflects the group’s ongoing focus on touring through a mix of city and regional venues, allowing audiences to experience the show within their own communities.

Other Queensland stops include Macleay Island and Toowoomba, with a performance scheduled at the Empire Theatre on 31 May, followed by shows on the Gold Coast, in Maleny and in Noosa in early June.

The spread of locations highlights the group’s continued engagement with audiences across different settings, from larger theatres to smaller community spaces.
