Stolen vehicle alert, July 4

In the past, many vehicles have been taken while the victims were at home.
Keys, mobile phones and cash were also stolen after thieves allegedly gained entry to homes and easily located car keys in plain view.
Police advise that residents should secure their homes and vehicles to avoid opportunistic thefts. Hiding car keys and valuables will make it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
Ask yourself: “Where are my car keys?”
If you can, secure your car in a garage or park your vehicle inside of your yard rather than on the street. This will also assist in the prevention of number plates being stolen.

A lovely start to NAIDOC Week

It was Yamanto Police Station’s privilege to host a flag raising ceremony this morning in honour of the commencement of NAIDOC Week.
Inspector Mel Adams chaired the function and introduced our distinguished guests from the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, as well as local politicians, Council, and the police community.
Uncle Val Brown and Aunty Rhonda Collard-Spratt gave beautiful renditions of  Amazing Grace and Mother’s Eyes.  Parts of Amazing Grace were sung in a native language, which is exactly what this year’s NAIDOC week is all about.
The theme of NAIDOC Week 2017, Our Languages Matter, encompasses the importance of remembering and passing down language to the next generation.  It’s a reminder to talk to your grandparents, parents, aunties and uncles about your language and culture. Learn as much as you can from them. Preserve it. There is a great concern that all of these amazing languages will be lost if we

National firearms amnesty targets illegal weapons

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan and Commissioner Ian Stewart are aiming to reduce the number of unregistered and unwanted firearms in Queensland through a national firearms amnesty.
From July 1 to September 30, anyone who has an unregistered firearm or firearm-related article in their possession – for whatever reason – will have the chance to legally dispose of it or register it without penalty.
Commissioner Stewart said this is the time to act.
“Not only will all participants avoid prosecution and the risk of being fined up to $60,000, they will also help keep our community safe by ensuring unregistered firearms don’t fall into the wrong hands,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“Here in Queensland, we have made it as easy as possible to participate.
“Firearms and firearm-related items should be handed in at licensed firearms dealers. A detailed list of all participating dealers is on the Queensland Police website at www.police.qld.gov.au. Alternatively,

Helping keep the Redbank Palms Resort senior safe

Police Service volunteers from the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit visited the seniors at Redbank Palms Resort and provided them with heaps of safety tips for their person, home, vehicle and property.
Like everyone, seniors found the information both timely and valuable.

It’s important to note that at all times locking and securing our home, vehicle and property is something most become complacent doing.
Police remind you to consider your security, especially if you are in another part of the house, or have just left your car.
Implementing safety strategies can minimize the chances of becoming a victim of crime. Exercising our right to safety by incorporating good security habits, including the use the security we have for our homes and cars will assist with this.
Helpful hints to secure your home include:

Install solid external doors along with quality deadlocks
Fit security screen doors
