Stolen vehicle alert, Friday July 28
In the past, many vehicles have been taken while the victims were at home.
Keys, mobile phones and cash were also stolen after thieves allegedly gained entry to homes and easily located car keys in plain view.
Police advise that residents should secure their homes and vehicles to avoid opportunistic thefts. Hiding car keys and valuables will make it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
Ask yourself: “Where are my car keys?”
If you can, secure your car in a garage or park your vehicle inside of your yard rather than on the street. This will also assist in the prevention of number plates being stolen.

Harnessing solar energy in Yamanto
Member for Ipswich, Ms Jennifer Howard MP visited Yamanto Police Complex to congratulate the Queensland Police Service (QPS) on the Electricity Optimisation Project (EOP) and the installation of solar power into QPS facilities across the state, including Yamanto Police Complex.
The 2015/16 financial year saw the QPS spend $13.5 million on electricity to power facilities and keep regional and rural stations air-conditioned. Based on current trends, this cost is predicted to increase to $20 million by 2020.
The EOP started in December 2016 with the goals of reducing electricity related costs and improving energy efficiencies across the Service so funding could be spent on other areas, including frontline policing.
Organisational Capability Command Assistant Commissioner Allan McCarthy said the EOP had identified potential savings of up to $1M a year by implementing a range of efficiency and cost saving initiatives.
“Not only is the project delivering significant cost savings to the Service, but it also

Police visit to Tiny Tots Raceview Playgroup
On July 26, Yamanto Police were invited to Tiny Tots Raceview Playgroup as part of their ‘people you meet in the community’ education program. The children were very excited to meet their local police officers, Chelsea and Jamie.
As a group we discussed what to do if you become lost or separated from your mum or dad, and how to dial ‘000’ in an emergency.
Some of the children were timid at first but livened up when they were able to do fingerprinting and received their own Junior Police Identification card and a sticker.
Next up it was pretending to drive the police vehicle, posing for photos with police and turning on the lights and sirens.
Everyone had a good time and took away the important message that their local police are friendly, approachable and are here to help.
This message is an important one for parents to teach their children from an early age.

Does your car lock?
If your car is lockable we strongly advise you to take advantage and lock it!
There has been a dramatic increase in the theft of valuables from unlocked cars in the Raceview, Flinders View and Yamanto areas lately.
In fact there have been 18 so far this month alone.
Almost one unlocked car is opened and robbed every day.
If you don’t want it to be your car, you can help yourself simply by locking your car.
People have lost wallets, navigation systems, loose change, and small valuables.
In most cases these thefts could have been prevented just by locking the car doors.
Please remember to – Lock it or lose it!
In most cases when your car is locked, it’ll be left alone.
