Police advise that residents should secure their homes and vehicles to avoid opportunistic thefts.
In the past, many vehicles have been taken while the victims were at home.
Keys, mobile phones and cash were also stolen after thieves allegedly gained entry to homes and easily located car keys in plain view.
Hiding car keys and valuables will make it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
Ask yourself, “where are my car keys?”
If you can, secure your car in a garage or park your vehicle inside of your yard rather than on the street. This will also assist in the prevention of number plates being stolen.

If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.

Pair charged after failing to properly extinguish a cigarette butt

With hot, dry and windy conditions across Southern Queensland again today, police and firefighters are reminding the community to responsibly extinguish cigarette butts.
Yesterday afternoon, a man and a woman allegedly failed to properly put out the cigarette butts that they had discarded in bushland near Atkinsons Dam.
The cigarette butts caused a large grass fire to start, destroying around 38 hectares of bushland before Rural Fire Service crews were able to extinguish it.
A 17-year-old Lawnton woman and an 18-year-old Taigum man have both been charged with discarding an item causing a fire that endangered property – an offence under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990.
They are due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.
A severe fire danger is forecast for the Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt for the rest of today.

A curious after hours visitor for Springfield Police Station

Police deal with all types of characters and personalities and although a rare few are completely unbearable, most are quite the opposite.
This week, we had a late night visitor who understood we were busy doing other things.
Sometimes our clients just need to bear with us, even under difficult circumstances. Our client was given the requested advice and assisted away from the roadway and safely into bushland.
Last night’s late night client
