Fernvale Sunday markets share road safety message

Queensland Police in conjunction with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service provided the local community with two demonstrations of the emergency services response to a road trauma.

The community were overwhelmed by the two demonstrations given by both the QPS and QFES during the day, with most attending the static displays asking question regarding standard drinks, and the Fatal Five.

Most tried the impairment goggles that provided an indication of what it would feel like to be over the limit of .05, including the QFES team.

Static displays provided by the Ipswich PCYC and Ipswich District Crime Prevention were inundated by visitors, who were keen to learn more about keeping safe on Queensland Roads.
The opportunity to witness first hand the response of emergency services in this environment raised questions that were answered by both the QPS and QFES.
A very successful road safety event.

Travelling this Christmas? Be road safe

When it comes to Christmas everyone is thinking of holidaying or visiting family and friends interstate.
It’s important to consider your safety, and the safety of your loved ones, when you’re driving on Queensland roads.
Not obeying the road rules and speed limits may cost you your life, and that of another person using the road.
Drive to the conditions of the road, so that you can make that sudden stop or avoid hazards. Rest regularly by having a break every two hours for 15 minutes or share the drive with a family member or friend.
Always watch out for wildlife, especially at dawn or dusk, and beware of soft edges and flooded roads.
If you’re going to change your plans, advise your family and friends and check road conditions, especially if there has been a change in weather due to storms or fire.
Be courteous to other road users and respect wide loads and heavy vehicles.

Adopt-a-cop wrap up on 2017

With 2017 drawing to a fast close, two schools in the Ipswich District have wrapped up the year with my final Adopt-a-Cop duties attended.
Goodna State school recently saw their senior school celebrate and acknowledge the efforts of volunteers involved in the annual connect to culture program (C2C). Emerging indigenous artist and QPS AO Charmaine DAVIS assisted me in the presentation of the children’s collaborative art work.
The chosen natural canvas selected was a gathering of seed pods, painted and then final touches added by Charmaine. The art work assisted the students in realising that they can each contribute to their community in a positive way and bring happiness to others through the enjoyment of that art piece. The theme was ‘individuals working together’. A huge thanks always to co-founder and organiser Michelle Maybanks of GSS for four years of C2C!
Ipswich North State School also wrapped up the year with this week’s
