Police advise that residents should secure their homes and vehicles to avoid opportunistic thefts.
In the past, many vehicles have been taken while the victims were at home.
Keys, mobile phones and cash were also stolen after thieves allegedly gained entry to homes and easily located car keys in plain view.
Hiding car keys and valuables will make it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
Ask yourself: “Where are your keys?”
If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.
You can report information about crime anonymously to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and community volunteer organisation, by calling 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersqld.com.au 24hrs per day.

Expecting any visitors? Lock up and secure your property

No one wants to see their car driving out of the driveway by someone who has just broken into their home, and taken their valuables, because the front door or window was unlocked.
Stop and think how that would feel?
By using the security you have, you can stop opportunistic sneak breaks.
Sneak breaks are occurring because Ipswich residents are leaving their front/back door unlocked or their windows open, when they are somewhere else in the house or garden.
Offenders will often have a story ready if you confront them, but if they see you somewhere else and have noticed that your window or door is either open or ajar, even closed, they will attempt to check and see if it is unlocked, and steal your property.
Security measures are vital to safeguard you from becoming a victim of theft, whether that be your vehicle, house keys, or valuables that you leave at the front
