In the past, many vehicles have been taken while the victims were at home. Keys, mobile phones and cash were also stolen after thieves allegedly gained entry to homes and easily located car keys in plain view.
Police advise that residents should secure their homes and vehicles to avoid opportunistic thefts. Hiding car keys and valuables will make it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
Ask yourself, “Where are my car keys?”
If you can secure your car in a garage or park your vehicle inside of your yard rather than on the street, this will also assist in the prevention of number plates being stolen.

Road safety report: Easter Break – Day 5
A man and a woman have died south of Maryborough on the final day of the 2017 Easter Road Safety Campaign, with the road toll for the holiday period at two.
At 3.15pm, a car was travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway when it hit a vehicle travelling southbound, six kilometres north of Tiaro yesterday.
A teenage boy was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition, and two men and a woman were transported to hospital in a serious condition.
More than 4300 motorists were detected speeding on Easter Monday, including a motorcyclist who was allegedly travelling at 225km/h in a 100 zone on the M1 through Loganholme.
Other high-range speed detections on Day 5 of the Easter Break campaign include:
• 223km/h in a 110 zone on the Bruce Highway through the Glass House Mountains;
• 190km/h in a 70 zone on Nicklin Way in Warana;
• 150km/h in a 90
Armed robbery, Booval
Police are investigating after a hotel was robbed overnight in Booval.
Officers were called to the hotel on Brisbane Road at 8.20pm after a man entered the hotel armed with a firearm.
The man threatened a staff member with the firearm and made demands for cash.
Staff complied and handed the man a sum of cash and he then fled the scene and was last seen on foot running along nearby railway tracks.
No one was physically injured as a result of the incident.
The man was last seen wearing a clown mask with green hair, a dark jumper, light coloured shorts and was holding a firearm.
Investigations are continuing.

MPs, councillors face corruption probe over alleged misconduct
Two federal MPs, mayors and councillors from three south-east Queensland councils are facing a corruption inquiry starting today over “possible criminal offences” during the 2016 local government elections.
