Join the drive to save lives this road safety week

Queensland Road Safety week is happening again this August 27-31 and it is just around the corner, lets keep each other safe whilst driving on Queensland roads.
Ipswich police have provided some helpful hints to consider when your next behind the wheel:
Plan not to drink and drive

If you plan to drink, plan to get home safely;
designate a driver, catch a taxi, public transport or organise a lift;
Stay at a mate’s place; and
You can still be over the limit in the morning, so avoid driving.

Put the brakes on speeding

Regularly check your speed when you’re driving;
If weather and/or road conditions are poor, slow down; and
Don’t follow to closely – leave a two second gap.

Take action against distractions

In the car, switch your phone to silent so you’re not tempted;
Keep your phone out of sight. Pop it in the glove box; and
Pull over safely before grabbing your phone or GPS.

Show some restraint

No matter how short

Co-responder Mental Health Team honoured with award

The Co-responder Mental Health Program is a collaborative initiative between West Moreton Health and the QPS in Ipswich.
The team was developed to improve the responses of police and emergency and health services to incidents where mental health may be a factor, connecting people to the most appropriate forms of care.
Police liaise with West Moreton Health who send a Co-responder to accompany police and provide on-the-spot assessments to people experiencing a mental health crisis.
This helps them determine whether a person in crisis requires Emergency Department care or alternate support options, allowing the correct and effective allocation of time and resources.
This valuable initiative was honoured with the Board Chair Award at this year’s West Moreton Health “Caring Better Together Awards”, on Friday, August 10.
The Awards are a significant celebration of West Moreton Health’s achievements, recognising individuals and teams across the health service.
A number of well-deserved awards were presented during the evening, including the
