Ipswich police offer car theft prevention tips

Does this sound familiar? The reality is that it could happen to you as the majority of stolen vehicles are more than 10 years old.
Your stolen vehicle is not just a costly problem for you, it’s a costly problem for the community.
Stolen vehicles are commonly used to commit further offences within the community, some of which are serious criminal offences.
Most car thefts are opportunistic however, thieves do target homes to steal car keys.  Some things you can do to reduce the risk of having your car stolen or broken into are:

Always locking your vehicle, including the boot and windows;
Remove all valuables and personal documents when leaving your car unattended;
Where possible use off street parking or secure parking;
Don’t hide spare house keys or car keys in your vehicle;
Never leave your car unattended with the keys in the ignition;

Ipswich Police urge residents to secure their homes as school holidays approach

Are you having a mid-year get away for a couple of days or a couple of weeks?
Have you thought about how secure your home is from a potential break in whilst you’re away?
Locking and securing your home is important at all times but in particular when you are away from home, no matter how short or long the trip may be.
Ipswich police have provided the below tips to ensure your home is secure and protected whilst you are away enjoying the school holiday break:

Ensure all doors and windows are locked with a key;
Install an intruder alarm, or internal/external cameras that you can monitor whilst on your travels;
Remove all valuable items from within from view;
Remove items that can be used to gain access into your house for example, ladders, garden tools;
Secure items of value for example, bikes, lawn mowers and secure these in your shed or garage;

Many vehicles are taken while the victims are at home.
Thieves target keys, mobile phones and cash left in plain view within homes and vehicles.
Hiding car keys and valuables makes it difficult for offenders to steal your vehicle and other property.
