Update: Incident at Springfield police station

Testing has been completed on an item with white residue on it that was handed to the Springfield police station around 3.45pm.
The substance has been determined not to be hazardous or explosive, but the exact nature of it is not known.
Officers and staff have been allowed back into the station after earlier being evacuated as a precaution.

Incident at Springfield police station

Police are investigating after a suspicious item with a white residue was handed to the Springfield police station today.
Around 3.45pm, part of the station on Augusta Parkway at Augustine Heights was evacuated as a result.
No one has been injured.
Emergency services remain on the scene.

Connecting young refugee women with police mentors

Member for Ipswich, Mr Jim Madden MP and Assistant Commissioner Shane Chelepy congratulated 24 women on their participation in the Connected Women program at a graduation ceremony held at the Queensland Police and Emergency Services Academy Recreation Club in Oxley this morning.
Connected Women is a joint venture between the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Islamic Women’s Association of Australia (IWAA). It is a free, vibrant, women-led program designed especially for newly arrived young refugee Muslim women aged between 15 and 30.

Developed and implemented in the South Brisbane District, the program aims to empower participants to feel and be safer in their community.
Community Contact Command Assistant Commissioner Chelepy said the program encouraged social unity and mutual understanding between police and the young women who participate.
