Clancy offers a ray of sunshine to kids at Ipswich Hospital

Senior Constables Clancy the koala and Kerrin Sheedy bring some joy and important safety messages
Senior Constable Clancy gave a whole lot of ‘sunshine’ to the children from the Sunshine Ward at the Ipswich Hospital today.

Supported by nurses and staff, children were visited by Senior Constable Clancy the koala and his helper (yours truly!) who gave out stickers and spoke about keeping safe as part of Child Protection Week.
Clancy’s mission was to put a smile on everyone’s face at the hospital: an easy task, and a great success!

Clancy visited all the children, giving high fives, offering a happy distraction from the everyday and sharing a load of joy with everyone he met.

Thank you to the Children’s Sunshine Ward at Ipswich Hospital for making us feel welcome and sharing a smile with us today!

Domestic and Family Violence, it is your business!

As a business, it is your business!
It’s not just hospitals and police that have to deal with domestic and family violence. The productivity and legal implications for Australian enterprise makes this a concern for your business too.
Do you know your responsibilities as a business owner, divisional manager or team leader?
Research has confirmed that domestic violence reduces an employee’s ability to perform at work.
KPMG estimates that domestic violence will cost the Australian economy $9.9 billion each year by 2021, including $609 million to cover production-related costs such as absenteeism and turnover.
Every Ipswich business must understand what domestic and family violence is costing their business, and it will continue to cost if they don’t act.
In a collaboration between Queensland Police, Ipswich Chamber of Commerce, True and Queensland Health, we are presenting ‘As a Business, it is your Business’, a half-day symposium on workplace-related issues of domestic and family violence.
The symposium advocates greater awareness

On the frontline of child protection, Child Protection Week

https://d2haxmvzil2swt.cloudfront.net/uploads/2018/09/03/121955_Final_Edited_Version.mp4 Download Video
This week is Child Protection Week.
Protecting children means a lot of different things to a great many people, but to the police officers who work at the frontline of child victim-based crimes, protecting children is the reason they get up every morning.
These officers see the worst of the worst, become intertwined in the terribly sad stories and witness first-hand the trauma that extends far beyond the day of the crime.
They are investigators, they are listeners and they are often the foundation of support for the victim who takes the bravest step to stand up and speak out.
We are using this week as a way to thank these men and women, to shine a light on the officers across the state working in the Child Protection Investigation Units for their commitment, their drive and the countless hours they spend working to keep the most vulnerable members of our community

Road Safety, educating the next generation

Road safety presentation
Year 11 students from Ipswich State High School (ISHS) participated in a road safety initiative focusing on road safety education.
The students were exposed to a number of activities relating to staying safe on our roads, including an interactive presentation teaching students about the dangers of the Fatal 5.
Year 11 students took a pledge to ‘Join the Drive to Save Lives’, supporting the Queensland Government’s road safety message.
Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) Ipswich kindly attended and ran activities with students using the Fatal Vision goggles, simulating the effects of alcohol on vision.
Students were shocked at how their co-ordination and perception were affected by alcohol, and many students struggled to stay on their feet while wearing the goggles.
A big thank you to Ipswich Pro Driving School who attended and provided the opportunity for students to get behind the wheel of their driver training simulators and experience real life road conditions.
