White Balloon Day for Child Protection Week

Bake sale, to raise much needed funds
As School Based Police Officer I joined Ipswich State High School for Bravehearts’ White Balloon Day during Child Protection Week.
This is our third straight year of fundraising for the event.
Bravehearts’ White Balloon Day is Australia’s only national awareness and fundraising campaign dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse through generating awareness to better inform adults about how to protect kids.
It is a crime that affects more than 60,000 children from all over Australia every year.
I use White Balloon Day as a platform to raise awareness and educate students about personal safety and support services available for victims of sexual abuse.
Fundraising for White Balloon Day has become a much-anticipated annual event for staff and students.
This year there were approximately 40 entries into the staff baking competition.
The competition guest judging panel included Senior Sergeant Margaret Cassidy from Ipswich District Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect team (SCAN), Associate

Senior Constable Clancy is checking in, R U OK?

Senior Constable Clancy is asking you all, R U OK?
R U OK? Day is Thursday, September 13, our national day of action dedicated to reminding people to ask family, friends and colleagues the question, “R U OK?”
Connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference to those who may be struggling with the everyday.
If you’ve got a niggling feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would, or they seem out of sorts, agitated or withdrawn, trust that gut instinct and act on it.
But, how do I ask “R U OK?”

Encourage action
Check in

Have a conversation, maybe comment on the changes you’ve noticed: you could help a family member, friend or workmate open up.
If they say they are not OK, you can follow the conversation steps (above) to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the
