Credit card fraud offences have increased and now account for 47% of all reported fraud matters within the Ipswich Police District.
The increase coincides with the advances in technology which allow contactless payment, paywave or tap option to purchase items.
Across Ipswich Police District this credit card fraud is a flow-on effect from homes and vehicle breaks ins.
Of these reported credit card fraud offences, we found 31% of them are directly linked to Unlawful Entry of Motor Vehicles (UEMV) or Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicles (UUMV) offences.
The credit cards are stolen during these offences and promptly used.
There are a number of practical and simple strategies you can adopt to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of this kind of credit card fraud:
Lock up your vehicle, including the boot and windows.
Don’t leave your valuables or personal documents in your vehicle.
