Across Ipswich Police District, speed awareness and pedestrian safety is the highlight for Monday August 27 for Road Safety Week, reminding the community to walk safely when crossing roads.
Be safe crossing roads no matter where you are.
It’s easy to become complacent when you’re on a familiar route.
Stay safe and look out before you step out: think, look and listen.
Some easy safety suggestions for crossing the road and walking safely to your destination:
Unplug your earphones when crossing the street and remove your phone so your sight is directed at the road and the vehicles in your vicinity
Be aware of your surroundings and act on your instincts – don’t assume its safe to cross just because others are
Always be cautious of vehicles at intersections especially if they are turning
Be careful crossing behind vehicles, especially buses which might not have seen you
Be visible, and at night wear bright coloured or reflective clothing
