The Co-responder Mental Health Program is a collaborative initiative between West Moreton Health and the QPS in Ipswich.
The team was developed to improve the responses of police and emergency and health services to incidents where mental health may be a factor, connecting people to the most appropriate forms of care.
Police liaise with West Moreton Health who send a Co-responder to accompany police and provide on-the-spot assessments to people experiencing a mental health crisis.
This helps them determine whether a person in crisis requires Emergency Department care or alternate support options, allowing the correct and effective allocation of time and resources.
This valuable initiative was honoured with the Board Chair Award at this year’s West Moreton Health “Caring Better Together Awards”, on Friday, August 10.
The Awards are a significant celebration of West Moreton Health’s achievements, recognising individuals and teams across the health service.
