Member for Ipswich, Ms Jennifer Howard MP visited Yamanto Police Complex to congratulate the Queensland Police Service (QPS) on the Electricity Optimisation Project (EOP) and the installation of solar power into QPS facilities across the state, including Yamanto Police Complex.
The 2015/16 financial year saw the QPS spend $13.5 million on electricity to power facilities and keep regional and rural stations air-conditioned. Based on current trends, this cost is predicted to increase to $20 million by 2020.
The EOP started in December 2016 with the goals of reducing electricity related costs and improving energy efficiencies across the Service so funding could be spent on other areas, including frontline policing.
Organisational Capability Command Assistant Commissioner Allan McCarthy said the EOP had identified potential savings of up to $1M a year by implementing a range of efficiency and cost saving initiatives.
