Ipswich Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) is celebrating the success of its award-winning Braking the Cycle (BTC) program, with its 200th student successfully obtaining his P1 licence.
BTC is a state-wide learner driver mentoring program that empowers young people who, due to financial hardship or social barriers, would otherwise be unable to achieve the mandatory 100 hours of supervised driving.
Michael Short became the lucky 200th when he didn’t have anyone to teach him how to drive.
“They [PCYC] were a really great help, and I think this is the best place to get help with your licence,” Michael said.
The program is made possible through an amazing network of volunteer mentors who are Blue Card and Restricted Driver Authorisation (RDA) approved.
Ipswich PCYC also has a number of Police and Police Liaison Officers who give their time to help develop positive road safety attitudes
