Driveway safety, Ipswich Police

Are your children playing on the driveway these holidays?
Now is the time to remind yourself that it’s school holidays and to think about where children may be before exiting or entering a driveway.
Children can move fast and run behind a car without warning.
They are also difficult or impossible to see from inside a car, especially if they are directly behind it.
To help prevent the risk of harm to children these holidays remember to:
Supervise:

Supervise children around moving vehicles;
Know where children are at all times;
Teach children to wave goodbye from a safe place, away from the drive way; and
Do not leave children unattended in the car.

Separate:

Separate the driveway from play areas where possible;
Use fences and gates to prevent children from gaining access and playing on the driveway; and
Treat the driveway as a road.
