A 42-year-old man has been taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, after the car he was driving collided with two trucks at Aratula early this morning.
Preliminary information indicates the man was driving southbound along the Cunningham Highway, when he has collided with the rear of a semi-trailer travelling in the opposite direction.
The vehicle has then collided with a second semi-trailer, which was travelling behind the first.
The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.
Both drivers of the semi-trailers were not injured.
Diversions were in place, while the Cunningham Highway was blocked, but has since reopened.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and is appealing for anyone who may have seen a blue 2003 Holden Commodore, with distinctive purple panelling, travelling along the Cunningham Highway prior to 2.10am, to contact police.
